To determine if public employees deserved the funding they were getting, SASSA performed a thorough evaluation procedure.

As of 18 April 2022, SASSA discovered that 63 212 had finished the screening procedure and been determined to be eligible for the funding.

In addition, after going through the evaluation procedure, it was determined that 3 268 people did not qualify for the award.

Moreover, it was disclosed that SASSA had recouped R12.6 million from public employees who had been determined to be unworthy of a grant.

For 98 817 recipients, the award review procedure was still in progress.

Government personnel may be eligible for certain subsidies depending on their circumstances and if they pass SASSA's means test, according to SASSA spokesman Paseka Letsatsi.

Letsatsi stated that it is SASSA's duty to flag a grant beneficiary with the government department or organization they work for and provide that agency the authority to decide on the situation.

"There are individuals who will seek to cheat any system, particularly when money is involved.

It is our obligation as an organization to ensure that we catch them and the proper punishment is taken, but we will undoubtedly have people who will try their luck to make sure that they swindle the state or whichever financial institution. "
