The telecommunications provider Rain has revealed that it is making its debut in the mobile industry after making the announcement. They are introducing a whole new 4G mobile network that will provide high-definition phone conversations, internet, and SMS in addition to nationwide coverage for 4G mobile devices.
With a nationwide 4G mobile network and a significant 5G network, Rain is now bundling its home phone service and mobile phone service under the umbrella brand name rainOneTM.
Customers may now connect all of their devices to one network and pay only one charge each month. rainOneTM provides limitless 5G home wifi, as well as free monthly calls and data for two phones; each phone receives 2GB of free data and 60 minutes of free high-definition voice conversations each month; the total cost of this service is R559 on a month-to-month basis, with no commitment to a certain length of service.
Customers who have rainOneTM may easily move their current number to rain mobile and use it as their main SIM card to take advantage of the company's nationwide 4G mobile coverage.
"The integration of home and mobile phone and internet services into a single, more reasonable package is a novel concept that, in our opinion, will find favor with residents of South Africa. Brandon Leigh, the CEO of Rain, said that "We recognize that our customers have family members, and with rainOneTM, we are catering not only for their need to access the internet from home but also outside on their mobile devices."
"Now customers have another choice for mobile services from a provider that has already established a strong reputation in the market for home internet," the company said in a statement. "We are serious about being a major player in the mobile market as well," stated Leigh. "The expansion of Rain's network, in terms of 5G coverage and spectrum acquisition, indicates that we are serious about being a major player in this market."
Customers of Rain's 5G service have the option to upgrade to rainOneTM for the same cost as their existing plans, at which point they will have access to free mobile SIMs, as well as free monthly calls and data for two phones.
Rain's primary area of concentration up to this point has been the residential internet market. Rain was the first company in South Africa to build a commercial 5G network in 2019, after its successful introduction of South Africa's first 4G data-only network in 2018.
Since then, they have extended the reach of their 5G network from major cities to smaller towns and provinces, and it now covers over 7 million homes. As a result, it is now one of the biggest 5G networks in the nation and continues to expand.
Following Rain's successful bidding in the auction for Spectrum in 2022, the company augments its current 4G network with a new layer that enables it to cover a wider area.
Rain is now in a position to join the market as a comprehensive mobile network operator, making it the fourth telco in South Africa after Vodacom, MTN, and Telkom to have a network that provides countrywide voice, SMS, and data coverage. This position was made possible as a result of the previous point.
